Description Join the next revolution in robotics at Amazon's Frontier AI & Robotics team, where you'll work alongside world-renowned AI pioneers to lead key initiatives in robotic intelligence. As a Principal Applied Scientist, you'll spearhead the development of breakthrough foundation models that enable robots to perceive, understand, and interact with the world in unprecedented ways. You'll drive technical excellence in areas such as perception, manipulation, science understanding, sim2real transfer, multi-modal foundation models, and multi-task learning, designing novel algorithms that bridge the gap between state-of-the-art research and real-world deployment at Amazon scale.

You will:
Join a pioneering team that's redefining autonomous vehicle development through the power of unsupervised learning. At Helm, we've established ourselves as industry leaders by successfully developing OEM-grade perception models using an AI-first approach. Now, we're embarking on an ambitious new chapter: developing a comprehensive ML centric autonomous vehicle stack for urban environments.
As a member of our AV Controls team, you'll be at the center of our autonomous driving initiative—spearheading vehicle control systems while collaborating closely with our perception and planning teams to create a cohesive, state-of-the-art AV stack. While trajectory tracking and execution are core responsibilities, you'll have the opportunity to influence and contribute across the entire autonomous driving pipeline. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of autonomous driving alongside a proven team that combines deep technical expertise with cutting-edge AI methodologies.
Main Responsibilities:
- Partner with perception and planning teams to architect, build, and test an AI-first autonomous driving platform for urban environments
- Design and implement robust vehicle control systems for trajectory tracking and execution, with a focus on real-time performance and reliability
- Develop and validate vehicle dynamics models through system identification and data analysis, driving continuous improvement in control system performance
- Create and execute comprehensive validation strategies across simulation and real-world testing environments
You have:
- 4+ years of hands-on experience developing vehicle control systems in the autonomous vehicle or ADAS industry
- Demonstrated expertise implementing real-time optimal control strategies (MPC or iLQR) for vehicle trajectory tracking, with proven on-vehicle implementation experience
- Experience addressing real-world controls challenges, including sensor noise, system latencies, and state estimation uncertainty
- Track record of developing and validating vehicle dynamics models through system identification and data-driven approaches
- Strong theoretical foundation in control theory, optimization, and vehicle dynamics, with practical application experience

You will collaborate with research engineers to build infrastructure to perform research operations and automate the training and optimization of ML models for real-time inference in computer vision applications.
Specifically, you will:
- Write frameworks with flexible and modular components to quickly prototype trainings and implement new cutting-edge research ideas
- Build robust and fault-tolerant ML pipelines for running inference on large image and video datasets
- Leverage your knowledge of deep learning frameworks to optimize trainings in terms of GPU utilization, memory, speed, and accuracy
- Design and implement APIs to automate the training and validation of a wide range of ML models for specialized use cases
You have:
- 5+ years of experience in a directly related field
- Experience with tensorflow/pytorch, Jax, or related deep learning framework
- Experience building distributed, scalable software as a service
- Proficiency in Python
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Research Intern – Humanoid Robot Foundation Models (GEAR Group)
NVIDIA is searching for an outstanding research intern to build humanoid robot foundation models and systems in the Generalist Embodied Agent Research (GEAR) group.
Everything that moves will eventually be autonomous. Our mission is to build general-purpose embodied agents that learn to explore and master complex skills across the virtual and the physical world.
You will join a collaborative research team known for influential work on multimodal foundation models, large-scale robot learning, game AI, and physical simulation. Past projects include Eureka, VIMA, Voyager, MineDojo, MimicPlay, Prismer, and more. One of our latest milestones is Project GR00T, a foundation model for humanoid robots. Your contributions will significantly impact our moonshot research projects and product roadmaps.
What You Will Be Doing
- Design and implement novel AI algorithms and models for general-purpose humanoid robots and embodied agents
- Develop large-scale AI training and inference methods for foundation models
- Optimize and deploy AI models in physical simulation and on robot hardware
- Collaborate with research and engineering teams across NVIDIA to transfer research to products and services
What We Need to See
- Pursuing a PhD in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Outstanding engineering skills in rapid prototyping and model training frameworks (PyTorch, Jax, Tensorflow, etc.)
- Python required; C++ and CUDA are a plus
- Excellent experience with large-scale machine learning/AI systems and computer infrastructure
- Experience with at least one of the following:
- Multimodal Foundation Models
- Hands-on training experience and publications in at least one: LLMs, vision-language models, video generative models, diffusion models, action-based transformers
- Robotics
- Hands-on training experience and publications in robot learning (reinforcement learning, imitation learning, classical control, etc.)
- Deep understanding of robot kinematics, dynamics, and sensors
- Ability to safely operate robot hardware, lab equipment, and tools
- Knowledge of control methods (PID, MPC, whole body control, etc.)
- Familiarity with physics simulation frameworks (Mujoco, Isaac suite)
- Multimodal Foundation Models
